Asian Paints Shares Surge 5.5% to Top Nifty Gainers on Birla Opus CEO Exit, Key Factors

ASIANPAINT
Paints Ltd shares jumped 5.5% on November 6 to become the top Nifty gainer, driven by the sudden resignation of rival Birla Opus CEO Rakshit Hargave and other positives. Hargave quit Birla Opus with immediate effect on November 5 after just 18 months post-launch, joining Britannia as CEO from December 15. Nuvama's Abneesh Roy noted channel checks show zero growth at Birla Opus over the past 6-7 months, calling paints a high-entry-barrier sector. The brokerage retained "Buy" on Asian Paints, citing its aggressive stance amid deferred Q2 demand due to rains—expected to recover from November with easing weather and post-GST discretionary pickup. Nomura hiked its target to ₹3,100 from ₹2,285, implying 25% upside from November 4 close. Adding fuel: Falling crude oil prices (down over 1% to two-week lows on glut fears) eased raw material costs for the paint giant. Reports also highlight increased weightage in the MSCI Standard Index. The rally reflects easing competitive pressures and improving demand outlook.
