Bank Nifty Rebounds Sharply, Snaps Two-Day Slide as Banking Stocks Surge

Banking stocks staged a strong comeback on April 1, 2026, with the Nifty Bank index surging up to 3.04% and hitting an intraday high of 51,806.25, fully recovering from a 6.5% decline over the previous two sessions. All 14 constituents closed in the green, signaling broad-based buying amid improved global cues and easing geopolitical tensions.

PNB
k led the pack with nearly 4% gains, followed closely by AU Small Finance Bank (up 3.73%) and Axis Bank (up 3.72%). Heavyweights like State Bank of India,
HDFCBANK
Bank, ICICI Bank, Yes Bank, and Kotak Mahindra Bank rose between 1.5% and 3%. Analysts view this as a promising recovery after Bank Nifty’s steep ~17% March correction. Beaten-down private banks on non-fundamental factors now offer value for long-term investors. However, sustained upside will require the index to form higher highs and reclaim key resistance levels around recent highs for a confirmed trend reversal
