BSE Shares Tumble 5% on Reports of NSE Tuesday Expiry Approval
Shares of the !Bombay Stock Exchange ( BSE ) fell 5% to Rs 6,933 today amid speculation that market regulator SEBI might approve Tuesday as the new expiry day for the National Stock Exchange's (NSE) derivatives contracts.
Currently, BSE's contracts expire on Tuesdays, while NSE's expire on Thursdays. A CNBC-TV18 report suggested SEBI may soon issue a circular after NSE reportedly applied for the Tuesday slot, a topic recently discussed by SEBI's Secondary Market Advisory Committee (SMAC). This potential change, aimed at avoiding overlap as per SEBI's March 2025 consultation paper, is seen as a competitive concern for BSE, leading to its sharp stock decline.
