HDFC AMC Shares Drop ~50% – Don’t Panic, It’s Just the 1:1 Bonus Issue

Investors waking up to their trading screens on November 26 were greeted with a shocking sight: HDFC Asset Management Company (

HDFCAMC
AMC ) shares plunging almost 50% in a single day. The stock, which closed at ₹5,336.50 on Tuesday, opened at around ₹2,682 on Wednesday. Relax – this is not a crash. It’s a routine price adjustment for the company’s 1:1 bonus issue. What actually happened? HDFC AMC issued one bonus share for every share held by eligible shareholders as of the record date (November 26, 2025). When a 1:1 bonus is declared, the total number of outstanding shares doubles overnight, so the stock exchange mechanically adjusts the share price downward by roughly 50% to keep the overall market capitalization unchanged. In simple terms: Pre-bonus: You owned 1 share @ ₹5,336 → Value = ₹5,336 Post-bonus: You now own 2 shares @ ~₹2,668 each → Value still ≈ ₹5,336
