Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi has motivated small and marginal farmers to adopt collective farming by aggregating their land to grow high-value crops and improve their income. Addressing the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) in New Delhi, he engaged with farmers prior to initiating two significant programs, the PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana, with a budget of Rs. 24,000 crore (US$ 270.8 million) has been allocated for the Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses. 11,440 crore (USD 1.29 billion). Collectively, these plans signify an investment of Rs. 35,440 crore (USD 4 billion). He also encouraged farmers to slowly shift towards natural farming using a phased strategy to harmonize innovation with traditional methods. Throughout the engagement, farmers from different states exchanged success narratives related to various agricultural initiatives, such as aeroponic potato farming, Kabuli chana cultivation without residues, and Shree Anna millet production in areas with limited water. He emphasized that collective farming can enhance productivity, lower expenses, and increase market access. He commended instances of cooperatives led by women, such as the Sakhi Organization, which grew from 20 to 90,000 members in the dairy industry, where more than 14,000 women are currently earning above Rs. 1,00,000 (US$ 11,277) per year. He praised the efforts under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and the Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF), which have aided in the growth of aquaculture and job generation. He emphasized that collective farming, organic methods, and varied activities such as dairy and fisheries will be crucial for achieving sustainable growth and rural prosperity in India's agricultural sector.
