HDFC Bank Stock Soars to Record Peak on Stellar Q2 Earnings Beat

HDFCBANK
Bank's shares notched a new 52-week high on Monday, riding a wave of optimism after the nation's top private lender unveiled Q2 results that outshone forecasts. The stock climbed 1.74% to Rs 1,020 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE), capping a robust 3% gain over the previous four trading sessions. The surge underscores investor confidence in HDFC's resilient performance amid a competitive banking landscape. With a market capitalization of Rs 15.45 lakh crore on the NSE, the bank reaffirms its dominance post-merger integration. Key highlights from the September quarter include steady loan book expansion of 9.9% year-on-year, bolstered by robust retail and wholesale lending. Trading income also provided a significant lift, offsetting a slight dip in net interest margin (NIM) to 3.27% from 3.35% in the prior quarter—a move attributed to higher deposit costs but cushioned by strategic funding shifts. Analysts at Nuvama Institutional Equities remain bullish, forecasting NIM recovery starting Q3. "HDFC's superior asset quality and fortifying core earnings position it for sustained outperformance," the firm noted, urging investors to capitalize on the bank's growth trajectory. This earnings triumph arrives as India's economy accelerates, with banks like HDFC poised to harness rising credit demand. Brokerages across the board have hiked price targets, signaling further upside potential.
