IGL Shares Edge Higher on Green Energy Push: 50:50 JV with HWT Signals Bold Bet on Compressed Biogas Boom

s Limited (IGL), India's leading city gas distributor, saw its shares nudge up in early trade on Monday, buoyed by the weekend announcement of a landmark joint venture (JV) with Hindustan Waste Treatment Private Limited (HWT) to spearhead compressed biogas (CBG) and biofuel projects. The stock rose 0.46% to Rs 194.75 by 09:17 AM IST on the BSE, extending a modest recovery from last week's volatility amid broader market jitters over global energy cues. Trading at a market capitalization of Rs 27,139 crore, IGL's shares are now 15.42% off their 52-week high of Rs 229.20 hit on July 9, 2025, but 12.7% above the year's low of Rs 172.00 recorded on April 16. The previous session closed at Rs 193.85, up 1.71% or Rs 3.30, reflecting sustained investor interest in the company's diversification beyond traditional CNG into renewables. With volumes ticking higher at over 1.2 million shares by mid-morning, the stock outperformed the flat Nifty 50, which hovered around 26,150.
