Infosys Shares Surge 3% Ahead of Board Meeting to Consider Share Buyback Proposal

The shares of

INFY
sys, India's second-largest IT firm, jumped over 3% in early trading on September 9, 2025, following the company’s announcement that its board will meet on September 11, 2025, to discuss a potential share buyback program. The stock opened at ₹1,481, ending a five-session losing streak and emerging as the top gainer on both the Nifty IT index and benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty. The announcement, made after market hours on September 8, 2025, comes at a time when Infosys shares have faced significant pressure, declining 13% over the past six months and 21% year-to-date in 2025, driven by macroeconomic uncertainties and concerns over US President Donald Trump’s tariff policies. If approved, this would be Infosys’ first buyback since 2022, when it executed a ₹9,300 crore program at a minimum price of ₹1,850 per share.
