LIC Emerges as Market Anchor with ₹21,700 Crore Equity Buys in Q3 2025

Amid volatile swings and relentless foreign portfolio outflows, !Life Insurance Corporation of India ( !LIC ) solidified its role as the domestic equity market's steadfast guardian during the July-September 2025 quarter, deploying over ₹21,700 crore in net purchases. The state-owned behemoth increased stakes in 76 listed firms, initiated positions in 13 new stocks, and reduced exposure in 81 companies. Its shareholding dipped below the 1% disclosure threshold in 31 entities—leaving open whether these were complete exits or mere dilutions. Despite the aggressive infusion, LIC's overall listed equity portfolio value edged down 1.7% to ₹16.09 lakh crore from ₹16.36 lakh crore at June-end, mirroring the broader market correction.
