NTPC Board to Discuss Rs 18,000 Crore Bond Issuance at June 21 Meeting

NTPC
Ltd, a state-run power giant, announced that its board of directors will meet on Saturday, June 21, 2025, to consider raising up to Rs 18,000 crore through the issuance of bonds or non-convertible debentures (NCDs). The proposed fundraising, detailed in an exchange filing, will involve secured or unsecured, redeemable, taxable or tax-free, cumulative or non-cumulative NCDs, subject to shareholder approval. This plan follows NTPC’s recent announcement to raise Rs 4,000 crore via NCDs on June 17, 2025, with a coupon rate of 6.89% per annum and a tenor of 10 years and one day, maturing on June 18, 2035. The funds are intended for capital expenditure, refinancing existing loans, and general corporate purposes. NTPC, India’s largest power utility, is focusing on expanding its thermal and renewable energy capacities, including pumped storage and solar projects, to support its growth and India’s energy transition goals. The board meeting is expected to draw significant investor attention.
