Petronet LNG, GAIL Shares Drop Up to 4% Amid Iranian Missile Strike on Qatar's Ras Laffan Facility

G and GAIL (India) declined by as much as 4% in Thursday's trading session on the NSE, as escalating tensions in West Asia rattled energy markets. The drop followed reports from Qatari authorities that an Iranian ballistic missile struck the Ras Laffan Industrial City, the world's largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) export hub, causing extensive damage and fires. Qatar's defense ministry stated that five missiles were launched from Iran, with four intercepted by air defenses, while one hit the facility, sparking ongoing firefighting efforts. QatarEnergy confirmed significant infrastructure damage, including to key LNG processing sites, with no immediate casualties reported.
