Q4 Results Impact: Havells India Net Profit Jumps, M&M Finance Profit Declines, Stocks React

The stock market witnessed contrasting reactions today to the fourth-quarter financial results of two prominent companies: Havells India and Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services (M&M Finance). While Havells India reported a significant jump in net profit, M&M Finance saw a decline, leading to a fall in their respective share prices.

HAVELLS
's Profit Surges, Shares Decline Consumer electrical goods manufacturer Havells India announced a robust 15.73% year-on-year increase in its consolidated net profit for the quarter ended March 2025, reaching ₹517 crore. This is a notable rise compared to the ₹446.7 crore profit reported in the same period last year. The company's revenue from operations also saw a healthy growth of 20.24%, climbing to ₹6,543.56 crore from ₹5,442.02 crore.   Despite the strong financial performance, shares of Havells India experienced a decline of around 3% in today's trading. This could be attributed to various factors, including profit-taking after a recent run-up in the stock price or potentially mixed reactions from brokerages on the company's future outlook despite the positive Q4 results. Notably, Havells also announced a final dividend of ₹6 per equity share, in addition to an interim dividend of ₹4 already declared for FY25, bringing the total dividend to a substantial ₹10 per share.
M&MFIN
Finance Profit Falls on Higher Credit Costs In contrast, Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services reported a 9% drop in its standalone net profit for the March quarter, which stood at ₹563 crore, down from ₹619 crore in the corresponding period last year. The company attributed this decline to a surge in credit costs (provisions), which rose by 34% to ₹457 crore compared to ₹341 crore in the previous year. Additionally, the company's net interest margin narrowed to 6.5% from 7.1% year-on-year, despite a 17% growth in its loan book, which further impacted profitability.
