RBL Bank Rejects Rumors of Emirates NBD Acquisition Bid, Shares Trim Gains

In a swift rebuttal to swirling market speculation,

RBLBANK
nk Ltd. has firmly denied reports suggesting that UAE-based Emirates NBD Bank is poised to snap up a controlling interest in the Indian private lender for a whopping Rs 15,000 crore. The clarification came late Monday, sending RBL Bank's stock into a rollercoaster ride on the National Stock Exchange. Shares, which had surged as much as 3% intraday amid the buzz, pared back most of those advances to end the session just 1% higher at Rs 292.40. The initial report, published by Moneycontrol and attributed to insiders close to the discussions, painted a picture of high-stakes negotiations. According to the sources, Emirates NBD—UAE's second-largest bank by assets—had been engaged in preliminary talks for several months to acquire over 51% of RBL Bank. The move, they claimed, was driven purely by strategic business interests, with the Dubai-headquartered lender viewing RBL as a promising asset in the competitive Indian banking landscape. "Both sides have explored the possibility, but nothing is set in stone," one anonymous source told Moneycontrol. "Emirates NBD sees real value here, but the deal's structure and valuation are still up in the air. It could go either way."
