SBI Shares Tumble Up to 7% After Disappointing Q4 Results

SBIN
f India (SBI) shares plunged as much as 7.42% on Friday, hitting a four-week low of Rs 1,010.90 on the NSE, after the bank reported March quarter earnings that missed market expectations. The stock eventually settled at Rs 1,018.40, down 6.74%. The primary trigger for the sell-off was a sharp decline in treasury income, which dropped to Rs 1,259 crore from Rs 8,991 crore in the same quarter last year. This steep fall significantly impacted the lender’s overall profitability. The broader PSU Bank index also weakened, closing nearly 3% lower, with most constituents ending in the red. Only Indian Bank managed to close in positive territory. Investors appeared concerned over the weak treasury performance, raising questions about the sustainability of SBI’s non-interest income in the near term.
