Suzlon Energy Shares Surge Over 5% on Govt Push for Wind Turbine Repowering

y shares climbed more than 5% on June 16, 2026, after Union Renewable Energy Minister Pralhad Joshi called for a detailed assessment of India’s ageing wind turbines. Speaking at a Global Wind Day event in Goa, Joshi urged the Wind Independent Power Producers Association (WIPPA) and Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA) to submit a report within 30 days on old turbines suitable for repowering. India has a large fleet of older turbines that can be replaced with modern, higher-capacity models to generate significantly more electricity from the same sites. This move supports the country’s ambitious targets of 100 GW wind capacity by 2030 and 156 GW by 2036. The development boosts optimism for Suzlon, India’s leading wind turbine maker.
