Tata Group companies climbed sharply on September 17, with
TATACHEM
Tata Chemicals rising as much as 10-14% and Tata Investment Corporation gaining around 7%. Tata Motors and other group stocks also advanced in heavy trading.
The rally followed a Tata Sons board meeting in Mumbai earlier in the day. The board approved a five-year extension for N Chandrasekaran as chairman of the holding company, reversing his August announcement that he would not seek another term after his current tenure ends in February 2027. Noel Tata, chairman of Tata Trusts, voted against the resolution.
The board also actively debated a potential public listing of Tata Sons. Sources indicated no formal resolution on listing was tabled, though some reports said the company would take steps toward an IPO. The discussions come after the Reserve Bank of India recently rejected Tata Sons’ application to deregister as a non-banking financial company, effectively making a listing mandatory under regulatory rules.
