US Stocks Mixed Friday as Tech Selloff Deepens Weekly Losses
US equities closed mixed on Friday as investors rotated away from technology and artificial intelligence-linked shares, leaving most major indexes on track for weekly declines. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 129 points, or 0.3 percent. The Nasdaq Composite fell 1.1 percent, while the S&P 500 slipped 0.4 percent. Chipmakers remained under pressure. The VanEck Semiconductor ETF (SMH) dropped 1 percent, weighed down by losses in Micron Technology, Advanced Micro Devices and Sandisk. Semiconductors have struggled throughout the week amid concerns over rising competition from China, leaving the SMH down 8 percent week to date. Broader weakness in AI-related names pushed the S&P 500 toward a weekly loss of nearly 1 percent. The Nasdaq was set to finish the week about 3 percent lower. In contrast, the Dow advanced more than 1 percent over the five sessions, supported by gains in more traditional industrial and financial stocks.
