astral wait for retracement upto the support levels
Astral Limited (NSE: ASTRAL) is a strong quality business, but at the current valuation, price discipline is important.
1. Current Price & Technical Picture
As of the latest available close, Astral was around ₹1,411–₹1,460, depending on the market-data timestamp. The recent 52-week range is approximately ₹1,312–₹1,768.
Important levels:
₹1,400–1,420: immediate support zone
₹1,350: important positional support
₹1,300–1,320: strong long-term support
₹1,500: first resistance
₹1,600: major resistance
₹1,765–1,770: 52-week high / major breakout zone
So technically, the stock is currently in a recovery/consolidation zone rather than a confirmed fresh breakout.
2. Fundamental Analysis
Astral's business is primarily divided between Plumbing and Paints & Adhesives. Plumbing contributed roughly 71% of FY26 business, while Paints & Adhesives contributed about 29%.
The long-term numbers are encouraging:
Metric FY26
Sales ₹5,908 Cr
Operating Profit ₹1,061 Cr
Net Profit ₹611 Cr
OPM 18%
EPS ₹22.74
ROE 15.6%
ROCE 21.9%
P/E ~57x
Sales have compounded around 16% over 10 years, while profit has compounded around 24% over the same period.
3. Latest Quarterly Performance
Q1 FY27 was quite strong:
Revenue: ₹1,578 Cr, +15.9% YoY
Operating profit: ₹231 Cr, +25.0% YoY
PBT: ₹163 Cr, +48.3% YoY
Net profit: ₹120 Cr, +52% YoY
The important point is that profit growth is currently substantially ahead of revenue growth, indicating improvement in operating leverage/margins.
4. Valuation — Biggest Concern
This is where I would be cautious.
At roughly ₹1,400, Astral trades at around 57× earnings, while its book value is only about ₹153.
So although the business is good, the market is already assigning a premium valuation.
That means:
Good company ≠ automatically good buying price.
For a fresh investor, I would prefer either:
a meaningful correction toward support, or
a strong earnings-led breakout accompanied by sustained profit growth.
