Exide Industries – ₹200 Crore Investment in Exide Energy Solutions
*
EXIDEIND
has invested an additional ₹200 crore in its wholly owned subsidiary Exide Energy Solutions Ltd (EESL) through an equity subscription on a rights basis. Following this investment, Exide Industries’ cumulative investment in EESL has reached ₹5,102.23 crore. Since EESL is wholly owned, the transaction does not alter Exide’s ownership or control.
* The investment reinforces Exide’s long-term push into lithium-ion batteries and the EV/energy-storage market. EESL is developing a multi-gigawatt lithium-ion cell manufacturing facility in Bengaluru, with the project progressing through equipment installation, line validation, customer sample dispatch and homologation. The facility is intended to cater to electric mobility as well as stationary energy-storage applications, giving Exide an opportunity to diversify beyond its traditional lead-acid battery business.
* The scale of capital committed is significant: Exide had invested around ₹1,500 crore in EESL during FY26 alone, taking cumulative investment to ₹4,802 crore as of March 31, 2026. The latest ₹200 crore infusion therefore takes the total commitment above ₹5,100 crore. Importantly, Exide has maintained a zero-debt balance sheet, indicating that the investment is being funded without materially weakening its leverage position.
* For investors, the key trigger is EESL’s eventual commercialization and ramp-up of lithium-ion cell production. Successful execution could position Exide to capture a larger share of India’s rapidly developing EV battery and energy-storage ecosystem, while reducing its dependence on conventional lead-acid batteries. However, the project also carries execution, technology, capex and ramp-up risks before it becomes a meaningful earnings contributor.
