Government PSU stake sales
* The government has significantly stepped up disinvestment in 2026, using the Offer for Sale (OFS) route to monetise minority holdings in listed PSUs. The move is aimed at raising non-tax revenue, supporting fiscal consolidation and easing pressure on government finances, particularly amid higher expenditure and elevated crude-oil prices. PSU stake sales through OFS in 2026 had reached an 11-year high, according to market reporting. * Key PSUs where the government has sold stakes include: $COALINDIA , NHPC, General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC), Central Bank of India, Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC), Cochin Shipyard, and NLC India. The government also completed strategic disinvestment of Indian Medicines Pharmaceutical Corporation (IMPCL).
