India launches anti-dumping probe on electrical steel imports

1. Trade remedy action initiated: India has started an anti-dumping investigation into imports of electrical steel from China, Japan, South Korea, and Russia following a complaint by the domestic producer joint venture JSW JFE Electrical Steel. The probe will assess whether imported material is being sold below fair market value and harming local industry. 2. Strategic material for power & EV sectors: Electrical steel is a critical input for transformers, motors, generators, EVs, and power equipment. Any anti-dumping duty could strengthen domestic manufacturing, improve capacity utilization, and support India’s broader “Make in India” manufacturing push. 3. Positive for domestic steel makers: If dumping is established, India may impose duties on imports, reducing low-cost competition from overseas suppliers. This would benefit Indian electrical steel and specialty steel producers. Stocks to watch: $JSWSTEEL , $TATASTEEL , $SAIL
