Ather Energy: Strategic Product Portfolio Expansion in Sri Lanka

ATHERENERG
Executive Summary Ather Energy has announced a significant expansion of its international product offerings with the launch of the 'Rizta' family scooter in Sri Lanka. Unveiled at the Colombo Motor Show 2025, this move marks a critical step in the company’s global growth strategy, aimed at capturing a broader demographic in emerging markets. Portfolio Diversification: Following its entry into the Sri Lankan market in December 2024, Ather is now diversifying its SKUs to include the Rizta. This model targets the family segment, a high-volume category distinct from the performance-oriented 450 series. Market Validation: The decision leverages the Rizta’s proven commercial success in India over the past year and its recent acceptance in Nepal. Management views the Sri Lankan market as having similar demographic needs and use-cases, projecting strong product-market fit. Operational Partnership: The launch is executed in collaboration with Evolution Auto Pvt. Ltd, Ather's authorized distributor in the region. This partnership model minimizes capital expenditure risks while ensuring local expertise in distribution and after-sales support. Global Footprint & Trajectory This development underscores Ather Energy's escalating international ambitions. Sri Lanka represents the company's second major international market following Nepal. Nepal Track Record (Benchmark): Since entering Nepal in November 2023, Ather has successfully scaled its infrastructure to include nine experience centers and seven service hubs. The Sri Lankan expansion aims to replicate this ecosystem-building approach. Management Commentary Ravneet Singh Phokela, Chief Business Officer at Ather Energy, highlighted the strategic timing of the launch: "Since entering Sri Lanka last year, it has quickly become a growing market for us, and expanding our portfolio here with the Rizta felt like the natural next step. We believe it is well-suited for the needs of Sri Lankan riders."
