The Government of India's Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has sanctioned four key railway multitracking projects with a significant capital outlay of ₹24,634 crore. This strategic investment aims to enhance India's core infrastructure by expanding the national rail network by 894 km across the high-growth industrial states of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Chhattisgarh. Aligned with the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan, these projects are designed to de-congest critical freight and passenger routes, substantially improving line capacity, mobility, and operational efficiency. The targeted corridors include Wardha–Bhusawal, Gondia–Dongargarh, Vadodara–Ratlam, and Itarsi–Bhopal–Bina. Key Investment Highlights: Enhanced Freight Capacity: The expansion is projected to accommodate an additional 78 million tonnes of freight traffic annually, streamlining the transport of vital commodities such as coal, cement, steel, and containers. Economic Stimulus: The projects will boost multimodal connectivity and logistics efficiency across 18 districts, fostering regional development and creating significant employment opportunities. Improved Margins & ESG Impact: This investment is poised to reduce overall logistics costs, cut oil imports by approximately 28 crore litres, and lower carbon emissions by 1.39 billion kilograms annually. This initiative underscores a strong government commitment to upgrading infrastructure, which will bolster core economic sectors, reduce operational bottlenecks, and create a more resilient and efficient supply chain network, presenting a robust opportunity for long-term growth.
