Indian EV Sector Analysis: September 2025 Performance

India's electric vehicle (EV) sector showcased robust momentum in September, with passenger vehicle (PV) retail sales more than doubling year-over-year. Registrations surged to 15,329 units, a significant leap from 6,191 units in September 2024, underscoring the accelerating consumer shift towards electric mobility. Passenger Vehicle Market Insights: Tata Motors continues its market leadership, reporting strong sales of 6,216 units, a 62% YoY growth. This performance reaffirms its dominant position in the domestic EV space. JSW MG Motor secured the second position with an impressive threefold increase in sales, registering 3,912 units, indicating strong brand traction. Mahindra & Mahindra demonstrated exponential growth, selling 3,243 units compared to just 475 in the prior year, highlighting the successful reception of its EV models.

A pivotal development is the market entry of Tesla India, which registered its first 64 units. This marks a significant moment for the premium EV segment and the overall competitive landscape. Other key players like BYD India (547 units) and Kia India (506 units) also posted strong numbers. Two-Wheeler Segment: The two-wheeler EV segment also posted a healthy 15% YoY growth, with sales reaching 1,04,220 units. TVS Motor (22,509 units), Bajaj Auto (19,580 units), and Ather Energy (18,141 units) are leading this dynamic space.
