MRF Q1 FY27 Earnings Review: Revenue Expansion Counterbalanced by Input Cost Pressures
$MRF Financial Highlights MRF Ltd. reported a steady topline performance for the quarter ended June 2026, though operational profitability faced significant headwinds. Total revenue from operations grew by 9.6% year-on-year (YoY) to ₹8,415.5 crore, up from ₹7,675.6 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. Despite the revenue growth, operating margins contracted due to an elevated cost environment. Earnings Before Interest, Tax, Depreciation, and Amortisation (EBITDA) declined by 7.5% YoY to ₹990.6 crore (from ₹1,070.4 crore in Q1 FY26). Consequently, the EBITDA margin contracted by 218 basis points to 11.77%, down from 13.95% in the base quarter. Operational Headwinds The contraction in profitability was primarily driven by a sharp escalation in operating expenditures. Raw Material Costs: The cost of materials consumed surged significantly to ₹5,824 crore, compared to ₹4,597 crore in the year-ago period, exerting substantial pressure on overall margins. Other Expenses: General operational expenses increased to ₹1,275 crore from ₹1,097 crore YoY, which largely offset the modest benefit the company derived from lower finance costs during the quarter. Corporate Action & Market Reaction Dividend: The company's board did not declare any dividend for the quarter. Stock Performance: The market reacted negatively to the operational margin miss. MRF shares declined by 2.5% to trade at ₹1,30,630 following the earnings announcement. This recent drop extends the stock's year-to-date correction to approximately 14%. Investor Takeaway: While MRF continues to demonstrate resilience in driving topline growth, near-term profitability remains heavily constrained by the elevated commodity cycle and raw material cost inflation.
