Yes Bank: Strategic Outlook & Growth Trajectory

YESBANK
Yes Bank is set for a new phase of strategic growth, anchored by its foundational partnership with Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC). MD & CEO Prashant Kumar has outlined a clear, forward-looking strategy focused on leveraging this alliance to achieve sustainable, profitable expansion. The bank is targeting a robust credit growth of 10-12% for the upcoming two quarters, building on a strong 3.9% quarter-on-quarter growth in advances. While Net Interest Margins (NIMs) may face temporary pressure in Q2 due to the lagged impact of previous rate cuts, management anticipates a recovery and improvement from Q3 onwards. This outlook is supported by recent performance data showing deposits growing 7% to ₹2.97 lakh crore and loans increasing by 6.5% as of September 2025. The successful completion of SMBC's investment, resulting in a stake exceeding 24% and representation on the board, is a pivotal development. Mr. Kumar emphasized that SMBC is a long-term strategic investor, providing clarity on future capital-raising capabilities and strengthening the bank’s governance framework. This alliance is expected to be a significant catalyst for growth and stability. Yes Bank will maintain its balanced and de-risked portfolio composition, with 60% allocated to Retail & SME lending and 40% to Corporate loans. This structure is designed to optimize risk distribution while capturing diverse market opportunities. Key future investments are earmarked for enhancing wealth management services, technological infrastructure, and expanding the distribution network to bolster long-term franchise value. Management reiterated a 'prudent' approach to credit quality, underscoring that growth will be pursued without compromising profitability. This disciplined underwriting philosophy is central to building a resilient, high-quality loan book for sustainable shareholder returns. The bank’s current market capitalisation stands at ₹69,301 crore.
