Closing Bell: Nifty holds 24,360, Sensex slips 70 points; consumer durables, media stocks advance
Market Close | Sensex, Nifty end slightly lower: Indian benchmark indices finished Friday’s session marginally lower after a volatile trading day. The Sensex declined 71 points to 78,009, while the Nifty fell nearly 30 points to 24,366. Top Nifty gainers and losers !Apollo Hospitals, !Bharti Airtel, !Adani Enterprises, !Adani Ports and !Wipro emerged among the leading gainers on the Nifty. On the other hand, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle, Jio Financial, ONGC, Hindalco and SBI were among the major laggards. Sectoral performance The broader sectoral trend remained mixed. Auto, energy, FMCG, metal, pharma and realty indices ended lower, while consumer durables and media stocks outperformed and gained nearly 1 point each. Broader market The broader market underperformed the frontline indices, with the Nifty Midcap index declining around half a point and the Smallcap index losing nearly 0.7 point. Overall, market sentiment remained cautious as investors balanced sector-specific buying with selling pressure across several key segments.
