Closing Bell: Nifty Reclaims 22,500, Sensex Gains 473 Points

Indian equity markets ended higher on October 5, snapping a four-session losing streak. The Sensex advanced 472.77 points, or 0.66%, to 72,382.47, while the Nifty climbed 133.80 points, or 0.60%, to 22,555.75, reclaiming the 22,500 mark.

s Passenger Vehicles, ITC, Bajaj Finance, Shriram Finance and NTPC were among the top Nifty gainers. On the downside, HCL Technologies, Max Healthcare, HDFC Bank, Asian Paints and Apollo Hospitals featured among the major laggards. Sectorally, pharma was the only major sector to close in the red, while Consumer Durables, FMCG, Media, Infrastructure, Oil & Gas, PSU Banks, Telecom and Realty advanced around 0.5–2%. Broader markets also strengthened, with the Nifty Midcap and Smallcap indices gaining around 0.5% each, reflecting improved buying interest across segments.
