Closing Bell: Nifty slips below 24,400, Sensex rises 114 points; mid- and smallcaps outperform

Indian equity benchmarks closed on a mixed note on August 13. The Nifty remained under pressure for the third consecutive session, while the Sensex finished with a modest gain. The Sensex climbed 113.61 points to 78,079.96, whereas the Nifty declined 40.10 points to 24,395.85. Among sectoral indices, the Nifty Metal gauge dropped 1%, while the Private Bank index shed 0.5%. In contrast, the Realty index advanced 1% and Consumer Durables gained 0.45%. The broader market outperformed the headline indices, with both Nifty Midcap and Nifty Smallcap indices ending in positive territory.
