Closing Bell: Sensex drops 388 pts, Nifty ends below 24,500; Realty, Metal stocks weigh

Indian benchmark indices ended Tuesday’s session in the red, with the Sensex losing 388 points and the Nifty50 closing below the 24,500 mark. Selling pressure in realty, metal and banking stocks offset gains in pharma and IT counters. The Sensex closed 388.19 points, or 0.49 per cent, lower at 78,154.25, while the Nifty50 slipped 112.10 points, or 0.46 per cent, to finish at 24,471.70. Among sectoral indices, Nifty Pharma outperformed, climbing 1 per cent, while Nifty IT added 0.40 per cent. In contrast, Nifty Realty, FMCG and Metal indices declined nearly 1 per cent each. Nifty Infrastructure fell 0.89 per cent, Nifty Private Bank declined 0.68 per cent, Nifty Auto shed 0.57 per cent, and Nifty Bank ended 0.56 per cent lower.
