Closing Bell: Sensex Falls 561 Points, Nifty Ends Below 24,100; Broad-Based Selling Weighs on Markets

Indian equity benchmarks ended in the red on July 14 amid widespread selling pressure across sectors. The Sensex declined 561.46 points (0.72%) to close at 77,054.94, while the Nifty50 dropped 158.95 points (0.66%) to settle at 24,052.05, slipping below the 24,100 mark. Among the Nifty50 stocks,

Aviation led the losses. On the gaining side,

ended as the top performers. Sector-wise, market breadth remained weak. Nifty Realty was the biggest laggard, tumbling 2%, followed by Nifty PSU Bank (-1.8%), Nifty Auto (-1.6%), Nifty Bank (-1.1%), and Nifty IT (-1%). Other sectors also closed lower, with Nifty Private Bank declining 0.8%, Nifty Oil & Gas and Nifty FMCG losing 0.6% each, while Nifty Media and Nifty Infrastructure eased 0.3% apiece. Defensive buying was visible in select pockets, with Nifty Pharma emerging as the top-performing sector, rising 1%, followed by Nifty Metal, which gained 0.6%.
