Closing Bell: Sensex, Nifty 50 Trim Losses as Crude Prices Cool

Indian benchmark equity indices recovered partially by the end of Monday’s session as Brent crude prices eased from intraday highs amid the ongoing US–Iran tensions. The Nifty 50 closed 1.73% lower, down 422.40 points at 24,028.05, while the Sensex ended 1.71% lower, shedding 1,352.74 points to settle at 77,566.16. From its intraday low of 23,868.05, the Nifty 50 rebounded nearly 160 points. Similarly, the Sensex trimmed a portion of its losses, recovering 1,142.16 points from the day’s low of 76,424.55. The Nifty 50 has now declined more than 10% from its record high of 26,373, reached on January 5, officially entering a technical correction phase. Meanwhile, Brent crude futures were trading 12.59% higher at $104.35 per barrel, cooling from the day’s peak of $120 per barrel. Investment in securities market are subject to market risks.
