Closing Bell:Sensex nosedives 2,497 points; Nifty slips near 23,000, while midcap and smallcap indices decline around 3% each.

Synopsis Stock Market Update (19 March 2026): Indian benchmark indices witnessed a steep decline of over 3% on Thursday. The Sensex dropped around 2,500 points, while the Nifty ended close to the crucial 23,000 level, wiping out gains accumulated over the previous three sessions. Market Summary The sharp selloff erased more than ₹11.5 lakh crore from the market capitalisation of BSE-listed companies, reducing the total to just above ₹427 lakh crore. The BSE Sensex plunged 2,497 points to close at 74,207, while the Nifty 50 declined 776 points to settle at 23,002, after briefly breaching the 23,000 mark during the session.
