Closing Bell: Sensex surges 640 points, Nifty crosses 24,260 after Trump hints Iran conflict may end soon
Indian benchmark equity markets ended a two-day losing phase on Tuesday, lifted by improving investor sentiment after US President Donald Trump indicated that tensions with Iran could be resolved in the near term. The Nifty50 finished 233.5 points, or 0.97%, higher at 24,261.6, while the Sensex jumped 639.82 points, or 0.82%, to close at 78,205.98. Trump stated that the conflict with Iran might be settled “very soon,” as he faces increasing political and economic pressure amid heightened volatility in global energy markets, according to a Bloomberg report. The broader market indices outpaced the benchmark gauges during the session. The Nifty MidCap index climbed 1.62%, while the Nifty SmallCap index gained 2.12%. Among sectoral indices, the Nifty Auto index led the gains. The Nifty Consumer Durables and Nifty Financial Services ( indices also posted notable advances. On the downside, the Nifty IT index emerged as the weakest performer, while the Nifty Oil & Gas index also trailed the broader market. Investment in securities market are subject to market risks.
