Closing Bell Sensex tumbles 1,677 pts, Nifty slumps over 2% as Trump's Iran remarks trigger market rout; ₹10 lakh crore m-cap erased
Market Wrap: Indian benchmark indices witnessed a sharp selloff on Wednesday after U.S. President Donald Trump said the tentative ceasefire with Iran had ended following a fresh wave of U.S. strikes, intensifying geopolitical concerns. The market rout wiped out nearly ₹10 lakh crore in the market capitalisation of BSE-listed companies, while crude oil prices surged 7% to $79 per barrel amid renewed US-Iran tensions. The Sensex closed 1,677.12 points, or 2.15%, lower at 76,503.60, while the Nifty 50 plunged 551.95 points, or 2.26%, to settle at 23,846.75. Selling pressure was broad-based, with all Nifty sectoral indices ending in negative territory. The broader market also remained under pressure, as the Nifty Smallcap 100 and Nifty Midcap 100 indices declined 1.97% and 1.57%, respectively.
