Closing: Sensex Plunges 1,124 Points, Nifty Slips 22,800

Indian equity markets ended sharply lower on September 28, with broad-based selling dragging all major sectors into negative territory. The Sensex declined 1,124.02 points, or 1.52%, to 72,771.72, while the Nifty dropped 360.25 points, or 1.56%, to 22,780.25. Among Nifty stocks,

, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, Tata Consumer Products, Adani Enterprises and Adani Ports were among the major decliners, while Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories and Infosys were among the few gainers. All sectoral indices closed in the red. PSU Banks fell around 3%, while Telecom declined about 2%. Energy, Infrastructure, FMCG, Realty, Private Banks, Metals and Oil & Gas also ended more than 1% lower. Broader markets also witnessed significant pressure, with the Nifty Midcap index falling 1.7% and the Smallcap index declining 1.8%. Investment in securities market are subject to market risks.
