Dalal Street Week Ahead: Nifty hits fresh peak, but weak broader support signals caution near 26,300

Nifty wrapped up the week with mild gains and a new all-time high, yet broader market participation stayed muted as the Nifty 500 continued to lag behind its previous peak. With the index approaching a crucial resistance zone around 26,300, traders may opt for a cautious, stock-selective strategy amid low volatility and mixed sectoral cues. The markets largely moved within a confined range throughout the week but still managed to close in the green. Nifty fluctuated within a tight intra-week band of 467.50 points, moving between 25,842.95 and 26,310.45. Although the index clocked a record high, the rally lacked robust support from the wider market. The current technical structure indicates that while Nifty remains in an uptrend and continues to post new highs, the overall market landscape is relatively narrow. This is evident from the Nifty 500 Index, which is still more than 2.5% below its lifetime high. Such underperformance in the broader market underscores limited breadth and strength. The index is attempting to break above a long-standing trendline resistance, but the breakout has yet to receive solid confirmation.
