Market Close: Nifty slips below 25,700, Sensex declines over 230 points; metal and PSU banking stocks defy broader weakness.
Stocks such as
TATASTEEL

NTPC

AXISBANK
and
ULTRACEMCO
emerged as key gainers on the Nifty, while
TECHM
,
TCS
,
ASIANPAINT
and
SUNPHARMA
featured among the top laggards. The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices both advanced by around 0.3 percent.
From a sectoral perspective, PSU banking, power, and oil & gas indices registered gains in the range of 0.5–2 percent, whereas auto, IT and realty sectors witnessed losses of nearly 0.5 percent each.
Indian equity benchmarks ended the January 14 session on a weak note amid heightened volatility, with the Nifty slipping below the 25,700 mark. At the close, the Sensex fell 244.98 points, or 0.29 percent, to settle at 83,382.71, while the Nifty declined 66.70 points, or 0.26 percent, to finish at 25,665.60.
