Market Close | Sensex Falls 508 Points, Nifty Settles Below 23,400

Indian equity benchmarks ended lower in a volatile trading session on Monday, marking their fourth consecutive day of declines, as investors remained cautious amid ongoing developments in the US-Iran negotiations. The Sensex declined 508.40 points (0.68%) to close at 74,267.34, while the Nifty 50 dropped 165.15 points (0.70%) to settle at 23,382.60. Sector-wise, selling pressure was evident across most segments, with Auto, Power, FMCG, PSU Banks, Consumer Durables, and Realty indices declining between 1% and 3%. However, Information Technology stocks bucked the trend, with the Nifty IT Index advancing 2.6%, while the Media Index gained 1.3% and the Metal Index added 0.5%. Among the major laggards on the Nifty were $HINDUNILVR , $TATACONSUM , ! $SHRIRAMFIN , and !Mahindra & Mahindra, whereas $TECHM , $INFY , $TCS , $COALINDIA , and $JSWSTEEL Steel emerged as the top gainers. Despite strength in technology counters, broad-based weakness across key domestic sectors kept market sentiment subdued, leading to a negative close for the benchmark indices.
