Market Close Today: Sensex Drops 161 Points, Nifty Ends Below 23,650 Amid Weak Rupee & Rising Crude

Market Close Today: Benchmark indices ended lower on Friday as late-session selling pressure dragged markets into the red amid weakness in the rupee and a sharp rise in crude oil prices. The Indian rupee slipped past the 96-per-dollar mark, while Brent crude hovered near $110 per barrel. The Nifty50 declined 46.10 points, or 0.19 per cent, to close at 23,643.50, while the BSE Sensex dropped 160.73 points, or 0.21 per cent, to settle at 75,237.99. emerged as the major laggards during the session. Broader markets also witnessed weakness, with the Nifty MidCap index ending 0.45 per cent lower and the Nifty SmallCap index falling 0.61 per cent. On the sectoral front, the Nifty Metal, Realty, and Oil & Gas indices recorded the sharpest declines. In contrast, the Nifty IT and Media sectors outperformed and ended with gains. Meanwhile, Brent crude’s May futures contract climbed nearly 2.9 per cent to around $108.8 per barrel on the Intercontinental Exchange, keeping investors cautious over inflationary concerns and global market volatility.
