Bank led the downturn, with investors also reacting to a broader global selloff sparked by mixed U.S. employment data, which muddied the short-term outlook for interest rates. The S&P BSE Sensex declined 400.76 points (0.47%) to close at 85,231.92, while the NSE Nifty 50 slipped 124 points (0.47%) to end at 26,068.15. Among the 30 Sensex constituents,

were the biggest laggards, dropping between 2% and 3%. The metal index fell 2.3% due to a stronger U.S. dollar and renewed concerns surrounding domestic steel pricing. Hindalco Industries shares declined 2.8% after reports of a fire at its subsidiary Novelis’ facility in New York. Despite Friday’s correction, both the Nifty and Sensex logged weekly gains of nearly 0.6% and 0.8%, closing less than 0.9% below their September 2024 record peaks.
