The Indian stock market opened on a positive note on Wednesday, May 21, tracking gains in Asian markets and strong momentum in the pharmaceutical sector. As of 9:30 AM, the S&P

SENSEX was up 318.89 points (0.39%) at 81,505.33, while the NSE NIFTY50 advanced 92.70 points (0.38%) to 24,776.60, crossing the 24,700 mark. However, broader markets showed some weakness in early trade, with the Nifty Midcap 100 down 0.09% and the Nifty Smallcap 100 slipping 0.18%. Sector-wise, Nifty Pharma was the top performer, rising 1.45%, supported by strong buying interest. In contrast, Nifty Consumer Durables led the laggards, falling 0.86%. On the institutional front, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth ₹10,016.10 crore on Tuesday, while Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) provided support with net purchases worth ₹6,738.39 crore.
