Markets open flat following 2-day surge; F&O expiry, FPI activity in spotlight Sensex, Nifty, Share Prices Today:
Indian equity indices began Thursday’s session on a tepid note, mirroring the subdued sentiment across Asian peers, after a two-day upswing fueled by optimism around a potential ceasefire between Israel and Iran. In early trade, the BSE Sensex edged up 138 points to 82,893, while the NSE Nifty advanced 43 points to 25,288. The benchmarks had climbed nearly 1% over the past two sessions, approaching nine-month highs as receding geopolitical tensions improved global risk appetite. However, a cautious undertone dominated Asian markets, with the MSCI Asia-Pacific ex-Japan index slipping 0.2%. Back home, attention has turned to the monthly derivatives expiry, which may introduce short-term market swings. Although softening U.S. Treasury yields could provide some support, persistent foreign portfolio investor (FPI) outflows — amounting to over ₹9,500 crore in just three sessions continue to weigh on sentiment.
