Meta Partners with $RELIANCE for AI Data Centre in India
Meta Platforms has signed an agreement with $RELIANCE to develop its first AI-enabled data centre in India at Jamnagar, Gujarat. $RELIANCE will build the facility with an initial capacity of 168 MW, with provisions for future expansion. The data centre will be powered entirely by renewable energy and cooled using desalinated seawater, with Meta covering all energy and water costs. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that the project will strengthen the company's global AI infrastructure while reinforcing its long-term commitment to India. The facility will form part of $RELIANCE ’s data centre campus in Gujarat and will be supported by Meta’s broader connectivity initiatives, including Project Waterworth. The partnership builds on Meta’s $5.7 billion investment in Jio Platforms in 2020 and subsequent AI collaborations. $RELIANCE Chairman Mukesh Ambani described the project as a milestone for India’s digital infrastructure and AI ambitions. Separately, Meta announced renewable energy agreements totaling nearly 1 GW in India, including 837 MW with CleanMax and 88 MW with Fourth Partner Energy, supporting its goal of operating on 100% clean energy.
