Nifty surpasses 25,200 mark, Sensex inches higher as India–US trade discussions boost sentiment

Indian equities opened on a positive note on Wednesday, supported by upbeat cues from the anticipated India–US trade talks and broad-based strength across sectors, led by Realty and PSU Bank stocks. The benchmark indices began the session with modest gains on October 15 amid optimism over renewed trade engagement between New Delhi and Washington, scheduled to take place later this week. At 09:16 a.m., the Sensex climbed 236.29 points or 0.29% to 82,266.27, while the Nifty gained 78.30 points or 0.31% to 25,223.80. About 1,323 shares advanced, 883 declined, and 148 remained unchanged. Most sectoral indices traded in positive territory, with Realty leading the advance with a 0.68% rise, followed by PSU Bank, which added 0.60%. Financial Services, Metal, FMCG, and Auto indices also recorded moderate gains. On the other hand, Media and Consumer Durables slipped 0.14% and 0.13%, respectively, while IT and Pharma witnessed marginal upticks. The broader market also moved higher, reflecting widespread buying interest. The Nifty Midcap 100 was up 0.2%, while the Nifty Smallcap index advanced nearly 0.4%. Over the past month, benchmark indices have largely moved in a narrow range amid the absence of strong triggers and persistent FII selling pressure, driven by subdued earnings growth that continues to pose near-term challenges for the market.
