SBI Q1 FY27: Net Profit Jumps 10% to ₹21,121 Crore, Beats Street Estimates; Stock Gains 3%

$SBIN (SBI) posted a better-than-expected performance for Q1 FY27, with net profit rising 10.2% YoY to ₹21,121 crore, surpassing the CNBC-TV18 poll estimate of ₹19,145 crore. Strong NII growth and improved asset quality supported the quarterly performance, lifting SBI shares by more than 3%. The country’s largest lender reported net interest income (NII) of ₹46,992 crore, up 15% YoY from ₹40,907 crore and above the ₹45,800-crore estimate. Pre-provision operating profit stood at ₹33,530 crore, also exceeding the ₹30,004-crore poll projection. Asset quality showed further improvement, with gross NPA falling to 1.47% from 1.49% in the previous quarter, while net NPA eased to 0.38% from 0.39%. SBI’s stock rose 3.21% to ₹1,119.80 following the earnings announcement. Provisions increased to ₹5,047 crore, compared with ₹2,872 crore in the previous quarter and ₹4,759 crore a year earlier. However, credit cost remained stable at 0.27% sequentially, down from 0.47% YoY. The bank’s domestic NIM stood at 3%, while overall NIM expanded 5 basis points QoQ to 2.86%. Gross advances grew 18.6% YoY and 2.3% QoQ, indicating sustained credit growth during the quarter. Investment in securities market are subject to market risks.
