Sensex drops over 600 points, Nifty slips below 25,700 as tariff worries weigh on markets

Equity markets closed sharply lower as the Sensex and Nifty weakened due to sustained foreign investor selling and fresh apprehensions surrounding potential US tariff increases. Both benchmark indices registered their fifth consecutive session of losses on Friday amid ongoing global trade concerns. The Sensex, after showing brief strength in early deals, ended 604.72 points lower, or 0.72 percent down, at 83,576.24. Meanwhile, the broader Nifty declined by 193.55 points, or 0.75 percent, settling at 25,683.30. Investor sentiment remained subdued following the steep decline in the previous session, with persistent uncertainty over global trade policies continuing to dampen confidence across markets.
