Sensex, Nifty end marginally higher amid volatile trade

Indian equity benchmarks wrapped up the February 4 session with modest gains after a choppy day of trading. Investor sentiment remained cautious amid global AI-related concerns, which weighed heavily on IT stocks. The Sensex closed up 78.56 points, or 0.09 percent, at 83,817.69, while the Nifty advanced 48.45 points, or 0.19 percent, to settle at 25,776. Gains on the Nifty were led by

. On the downside, IT heavyweights including Infosys, TCS, Tech Mahindra, HCL Technologies, and Wipro dragged the index lower. Broader markets outperformed the benchmarks, with the Nifty Midcap index rising 0.6 percent and the Smallcap index climbing 1.2 percent. Sector-wise, the IT index tumbled nearly 6 percent amid AI-driven uncertainties, while auto, energy, consumer durables, metals, oil & gas, and power stocks posted gains of 1–2 percent.
