Sensex recover partially from lows; IT, Pharma stocks under pressure; ADANIPOWER r surges 20%
Indian equity benchmarks traded with weakness on Monday, weighed down by a sharp selloff in IT counters after the US announced a one-time $100,000 levy on fresh H-1B visas.
As of 1 PM, the BSE Sensex stood at 82,448.78, lower by 177.45 points or 0.21%, while the NSE Nifty 50 slipped 22.75 points or 0.08% to 25,306.10.
Technology shares faced intense selling pressure, dragging the Nifty IT index down nearly 4% to 35,145.10 in intraday trade, after US President Donald Trump unveiled the steep visa fee hike.
