Sensex slides 400 points, Nifty hovers near 25,750; US tariff worries weigh on markets
Indian equity benchmarks Sensex and Nifty slipped on Friday due to continued foreign investor selling and renewed apprehensions over potential US tariff increases.
The frontline indices recorded their fifth consecutive session of losses as persistent global trade tensions and overseas fund outflows dampened investor sentiment.
After a brief recovery in early trading, the Sensex dropped 400.71 points, or 0.48 percent, to 83,780.25. Meanwhile, the Nifty fell 113.70 points, or 0.44 percent, to trade at 25,763.15 around 11:40 a.m.
Market mood stayed guarded following the steep decline in the previous session, with ongoing uncertainty surrounding international trade policies continuing to pressure equities.
